Get your canoe and head to Maine this spring!

February 23, 2010

Todays guest blogger is Andrew Mooers from Maine. I think Andrew is one of the most enjoyable creative bloggers around. He is a great wordsmith and creates verbal pictures that capture the essence of the area he serves. Check out his blog on a regular basis and escape from suburbia. If you grew up in a rural area, he will make you feel right at home.

You Think Your Canoe, Your Kayak Is In Your Garage Right?

Spring Races Coming, Be Ready.

In Maine, as winter snows melt, the rivers and streams swell to higher
levels on their banks. Thoughts of getting on the Maine water, in a
canoe, kayak formulate.

to celebrate spring start to play on the mental projector. Don’t wait until Friday night before the race you always take part in. You may
have forgotten your brother Bob or one of your kids “borrowed” the water craft last. And it is not parked where you think. Look under that
collection in the garage or over the shed and make sure you are ready.

Nearly 90 canoers, kayakers
took part in last  year’s Houlton
river race on the Meduxnekeag.

The Maliseet word for “rocks at its mouth”.

A river starting at Drews Lake, which actually is Meduxnekeag Lake but not one locally calls Drews that.        Picking up speed, in and out of Green Lake in New Limerick Maine. And next the river wanders thru Houlton
and eventually dumping, flowing in to New Brunswick Canada as it crosses the border.

You don’t have to be a black belt racer pushing against the stop watch to better your time. Many folks are recreational float down the river types…digging out, dusting off after a Maine winter.

See you on the water. In the meantime, hop in this canoe. (Balancing shakily) Steady, easy. Whoa, WHOA Mr Bull In A China Closet. There. Now hang on , the rapids are coming up. Oh and by the way, is your term insurance policy all current, paid up and in force? Good.
Very good. (smile)
